Voices and Rhythm Event August 2024

A Magical Evening of Music and Community at Wild Acres

Creating magical experiences that bring people together

On Saturday, August 17, 2024, Wild Acres was alive with music, community, and creativity as we hosted our first celebratory evening of Voices and Rhythms. The event was a resounding success, bringing together 35 local people from the Berkeley Vale area for an unforgettable night.

Director Amanda shared her reflections on the evening:

“It was a brilliant night when 35 local people gathered together for our first celebratory evening of Voices and Rhythms at Wild Acres. We were inspired to see that the car-sharing initiative worked so well with all musicians and participants coordinating lift sharing.”

Gathering Under the Sky

The event began with singers assembling around the totem pole and teepee, lying down on the grass and gazing up at the clouds overhead. It was a serene moment of connection with nature and each other.

Embodied Voice Workshop with Jenna Monroe

We opened our voices with the inspiring Jenna Monroe. Amanda described the experience:
“It felt magical looking up at the passing clouds as we were soothed and enchanted by Salba’s hang drum chimes.”
Participants discovered the power of their voices through innovative techniques that connected body and voice, all while being enveloped by the soothing sounds of Salba’s hang drum.

Delicious Vegetarian Feast

As the evening progressed, Martin and Cherie delighted us with a delicious feast made from Wild Acres vegetables. The meal was a celebration of local produce and community spirit.

Percussion with the Sharpness Women’s Drummers

After dinner, hearts beat together with the skillful djembe drumming and enchanting stories led by Evelyn and the Sharpness Women’s Drummers. “All hearts beat together with the beautiful, skillful djembe drumming and enchanting stories led by Evelyn and the Sharpness Women’s Drummers.” – Amanda
Participants immersed themselves in the rhythms, learning the basics of percussion and feeling the collective energy of communal drumming.

Simbora Samba Workshop with Tom

The night culminated in carnival style with everyone joining in percussion and dancing to the samba beats of Tom and the Simbora Samba band.

Community and Sustainability

We were especially pleased to see our car-sharing initiative work so effectively.

This effort not only reduced our environmental impact but also fostered connections among attendees even before they arrived at Wild Acres.

The event was met with overwhelming positivity

Participants left feeling inspired, connected, and eager for future gatherings at Wild Acres.
